Building and maintaining a long-term career in the artistic and cultural sector is fraught with difficulties. While COVID-19 has certainly worsened things, there are structural problems and long-standing, legitimate and ever more pressing demands as regards the status, entitlements and precarious working conditions of artists and cultural workers.  

• A large number of artists forced to resort to pluriactivity and find a complementary job to secure a stable source of income.
• The dependence of cultural organizations on grants curtails artistic freedom.
• Access to finance is a thorny and complex issue and alternative funding strategies like Crowdfunding fail to deliver on their promises.
